چکیده

Abstract We present a detailed network model of neurons of the cochlear nucleus to explore leveldependent processing by T stellate cells. These cells selectively process input from two types of auditory nerve fibres to enhance their dynamic range. We use a biologically plausible network between T stellate, D stellate and tuberculoventral cells, to show how level-dependent selective processing can be used to recreate rate-level curves seen in vivo and encode the spectrum of the vowel /ε/. The compartmental models include recently formulated current models of ventral cochlear nucleus cells to give greater accuracy of cell spiking behaviour.

An Analogue Electronic Model of Ventral Cochlear Nucleus Neurons

This paper proposes a simple analogue electronic spiking neuron circuit, which can be used to create hardware models of biological neural systems. In spite of its simplicity, the circuit is able to simulate a variety of different neuron types. Measurements of the neuron model in various settings are compared with the physiological response of certain neuron types in the Ventral Cochlear Nucleus...

A primary acoustic startle circuit: lesion and stimulation studies.

The latency of the acoustic startle reflex in the rat is 8 msec, measured from tone onset to the beginning of the electromyographic response in the hindleg. This extremely short latency indicates that only a few synapses could be involved in some primary acoustic startle circuit. Acoustic startle is being used as a model system for studying habituation, sensitization, prepulse inhibition, class...

Hyperactivity in the ventral cochlear nucleus after cochlear trauma.

The emergence of hyperactivity in the form of elevated spontaneous firing rates after cochlear trauma has been well documented in a number of central auditory structures, including the auditory cortex, inferior colliculus, and dorsal subdivision of the cochlear nucleus. This hyperactivity is of interest as a possible neural substrate of tinnitus. Whether the ventral subdivision of the cochlear ...

A Simulation-Based Study of Dorsal Cochlear Nucleus Pyramidal Cell Firing Patterns

A two-variable integrate and fire model is presented to study the role of transient outward potassium currents in producing temporal aspects of dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN) pyramidal cells with different profiles namely the chopper, the pauser and the buildup. This conductance based model is a reduced version of KM-LIF model (Meng & Rinzel, 2010) which captures qualitative firing features of a...

A computer model of amplitude-modulation sensitivity of single units in the inferior colliculus.

A computer model is presented of a neural circuit that replicates amplitude-modulation (AM) sensitivity of cells in the central nucleus of the inferior colliculus (ICC). The ICC cell is modeled as a point neuron whose input consists of spike trains from a number of simulated ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN) chopper cells. Input to the VCN chopper cells is provided by simulated spike trains from a...
